The short version
- Helix has no account and no sign-in.
- It has no analytics, advertising or tracking.
- What Helix measures stays on your Mac. OMIUR never receives it.
- Helix does not connect to the internet. Buying Helix Pro goes through the App Store.
What Helix reads
To show how your Mac is doing, Helix reads system readings on your Mac: processor and memory use, storage, battery, network and Wi-Fi details, connected devices and displays, and the names of the apps that are using the GPU or the Neural Engine. It shows them to you and uses them for the graphs and Insights in the app. They are not sent to OMIUR or to anyone else.
What Helix keeps
Helix keeps the last seven days of readings, one entry a minute, in a small database in the app's own storage on your Mac. The entries are numbers, such as processor use and battery level: they contain no app names and no Wi-Fi name. That is how it draws history graphs and writes Insights. Older entries are deleted automatically, and none of it is uploaded.
To erase the history sooner, quit Helix and delete the Helix folder in ~/Library/Containers/com.omiur.helix/Data/Library/Application Support. In Finder, choose Go, then Go to Folder, to open it. Helix starts a new history the next time it runs.
Insights and Apple Intelligence
Insights looks for trends in the last seven days of readings. Its plain-language summary is written on your Mac by Apple Intelligence, using Apple's on-device model. Your readings are not sent anywhere to write it. If Apple Intelligence isn't available on your Mac, Helix writes the summary itself.
Wi-Fi network name and Location
macOS shares the name of a Wi-Fi network only with apps that are allowed to use Location Services, so when you open the Network page macOS may ask whether Helix can use your location. Helix uses that permission only to show the Wi-Fi network name. It does not use or store your location. If you say no, everything else keeps working and the network name is simply not shown.
The local feed
While Helix is running, it serves a read-only copy of its latest readings at 127.0.0.1:9494, an address that exists only inside your Mac. Helix's widgets read it, and so can scripts you write. Other devices on your network cannot reach it, and the websites you visit cannot read it either: it sends no permission header, and it answers only requests addressed to 127.0.0.1, localhost or [::1], so a site cannot reach it by pointing its own name at your Mac. Programs running on your Mac can, so treat it like the readings in the app. Nothing is sent from it to the internet.
Purchases
Helix is free to use, with a one-time Pro unlock (and a 14-day free trial of it) bought through the App Store. Apple handles your payment and your Apple ID, and OMIUR never sees your payment details. Helix asks the App Store on your Mac whether Pro is unlocked. Apple may share anonymous sales totals with us, which do not identify you.
Third parties
Helix contains no advertising, analytics or tracking code, and it shares nothing with anyone.
Children
Helix collects no personal information from anyone, including children.
